📚✨ Digital Bookmark Exchange Project 2025 ✨📚

Welcome to the Digital Bookmark Exchange Project 2025 — a modern, creative extension of the traditional Bookmark Exchange Project!

Just like the physical exchange, this initiative connects schools worldwide, but with an exciting digital twist: instead of posting handmade bookmarks, students will design and exchange digital bookmarks. 🎨💻

This format makes the project accessible, affordable, and eco-friendly. Schools can avoid postal delays, reduce costs, and integrate digital design into classroom activities. Students, meanwhile, get the chance to merge their love of books with IT and creativity.

🌍 Why Join the Digital Bookmark Exchange Project?

  • 📬 No postal delays or costs — perfect for schools with limited or expensive postal services.
  • 📱 Appeals to tech-savvy students — engage learners who enjoy working with digital tools.
  • 🎨 Promotes digital creativity — bookmarks can be designed with MS Paint, Word, Canva, Photoshop, or other digital platforms.
  • 🌟 Eco-friendly and flexible — bookmarks can be kept digital or printed locally.

🗓️ Important Date:

📅 Registration Deadline: October 26, 2025

⚠️ Note: This project is separate from the physical Bookmark Exchange Project. Schools wishing to participate in both must register separately.

📝 Step-by-Step Guide — How to Register

Step 1 — Complete the Online Form

  • Open the Registration Form for your age group.
  • Fill in carefully:
    • School name & postal address
    • Contact person (teacher/librarian)
    • Email (preferably school email)
    • Age group & number of participating students
    • Preferred exchange period (October–November 2025 or another agreed date with your partner school)
    • Review all details before submitting.

Step 2 — Confirmation & Partner Assignment

  • Coordinators will assign you a partner school.
  • Check the Google Sheets to view your assigned partner.

Step 3 — Contact Your Partner School

  • Email your partner school first to introduce yourself and confirm participation.
  • Wait for their reply before beginning bookmark preparation.
  • Together, decide:
    • The best exchange period (October–November or another feasible month).
    • The preferred digital sharing method (email, Google Drive, Dropbox, etc.).

⚠️ Please ensure you keep your commitment. In past years, some schools did not fulfill their obligations, leaving students without bookmarks.

Step 4 — Create and Share Bookmarks

  • Each student should design their own digital bookmark.
  • Recommended size: 2.5 x 8.5 inches (6.5 cm x 21.5 cm).
  • File formats: PNG, JPEG, or PDF.
  • Compile all bookmarks and send them to your partner school coordinator using the agreed method.

Step 5 — Document and Celebrate

  • Share screenshots or samples of the exchange for the “What Others Are Doing for ISLM” webpage.
  • Download and distribute e-certificates for students, teachers, and schools (available Nov–Dec 2025).

🔧 Project Guidelines

Alongside the general rules of the Bookmark Exchange Project, please note these specific points for the digital version:

  • Each student must create one unique digital bookmark.
  • Printing tip: At the recommended size, 4 bookmarks fit on a single A4 sheet when printed horizontally.
  • Cost-saving idea: Schools may design black-and-white bookmarks so that partner schools can print and color them locally.
  • Digital sharing can be done via email attachments or shared folders.

🖼️ Optional Enrichment

1. 📸 Gallery of Digital Bookmarks with Artist Details

Schools are invited (but not required) to showcase their students’ bookmarks in an online gallery. This provides global visibility and celebrates student creativity.

How to participate:

  1. Collect each student’s bookmark (PNG/JPEG/PDF).
  2. Gather basic artist information (optional for privacy):
    • First name (or full name, if permitted)
    • Age/Grade
    • School name & location
    • Short description (1–2 sentences about the design or inspiration)
  3. Send bookmarks + artist details in one folder (Google Drive/Dropbox/email) to the Project Coordinator:
    • 📧 Dr. Chhavi Jain — iaslchhavi@gmail.com

Optional: Schools may also submit short video clips of students introducing their bookmarks.

2. 🛠️ Interactive Bookmark Design Tool (Optional)

For schools without access to design software, we provide a browser-based tool that allows students to:

  • Select templates
  • Add text, images, or clipart
  • Draw freehand
  • Preview and save as PNG/JPEG

This ensures all students can participate, regardless of technical background.

🛠️ Corrections to Submitted Data

If you realize you have made an error while filling out the registration form, please follow this procedure:

  1. Check the Data Sheets — first verify your details in the published Google Sheets for your age group.
  2. Contact the Coordinator — email the concerned ISLM Digital Bookmark Exchange Coordinator for your age group.
    • If you entered incorrect data, mention your Line Number in the sheet.
    • If you have an issue involving your assigned partner, mention both your Line Number and your Partner School’s Line Number.
  3. The Coordinator will help correct the issue.

⚠️ Please double-check before submitting your form. Accurate information reduces delays and errors.

💡 Privacy & Participation Notes

  • Participation in the Gallery and use of the Interactive Tool are entirely optional.
  • Schools may share only first names of students if preferred.
  • For video/photo submissions, please ensure parental/guardian consent.

💻 Message from the ISLM Chairperson

Dear Educators, Librarians, and Coordinators,

The Digital Bookmark Exchange Project is a wonderful innovation that combines the joy of reading with the excitement of technology. By embracing digital tools, this project enables students to express their creativity in new ways while building bridges across borders.

This initiative is particularly valuable for schools where traditional exchanges may be challenging due to postal limitations or costs. Through digital bookmarks, students not only design art but also share their imagination instantly with peers around the world. It is a true reflection of how libraries and technology together can open doors to collaboration and cultural exchange.

I encourage you to inspire your students to participate actively, experiment with digital creativity, and enjoy the process of sharing their work globally. Each digital bookmark is a step towards making our libraries vibrant spaces of innovation, connection, and learning.

Thank you for your continued support and commitment to ISLM. Your dedication ensures that projects like these thrive and leave a lasting impact on young learners everywhere.

With appreciation,

Raman Deep
