All Members* Receive

  • Documents and Publications: Exclusive online access to the quarterly IASL Newsletter & Window on the World of School Libraries reports, conference proceedings, and yearly organizational reports.
  • Member-to-Member Communication: Access the member directory online for  the contact information of active individual and institutional IASL members.
  • IASL Listserv: Access to the members-only listserv for exchanging ideas and discussing issues relating to school libraries and education worldwide.

Member Categories

Individual Memberships

Personal membership: open to all individuals who are interested in the development of school libraries and school library programs. 

Life membershipan individual personal membership for one's lifetime, paid in a lump-sum by the individual or an organization on their behalf. 

  • Additional Personal & Life Membership Benefits: 
    • May cast one vote on all matters of substance at the Annual General Meeting or by mail/email ballot
    • May stand for office and serve on IASL committees

Retiree Membership: open to individuals no longer in full-time employment (usually age 60+).

  • Additional Retiree Membership Benefits: 
    • May cast one vote on all matters of substance at the Annual General meeting or by mail/email ballot

Student Membership: Open to any person studying to join the school librarianship profession and not yet employed.

Organizational Memberships

Association membership: open to school library associations

Institutional membership: open to libraries, library schools, and other educational and commercial organizations

  • Additional Association & Institutional Membership Benefits:
    • Designate one to three persons to receive the member benefits 
    • These designees may stand for office and serve on IASL committees.
    • One designee may report on association/institution activities at the Windows on the World meeting during the annual conference (with prior notification to the Vice President-Association Relations)
    • One designee will exercise one vote on behalf of the entire association/institution on all matters of substance at the Annual General Meeting or by mail/email ballot (with prior notification to the Executive Director).

Partner Membership: open to national, regional or local (school) library associations and school library sections of national, regional or local library associations; requires a three-year contract. 

  • Additional Partnership Membership Benefits: 
    • All members of the Partner Member Association will become individual partner members of IASL with access to member benefits
    • One designee will exercise one vote on behalf of the entire association/institution on all matters of substance at the Annual General Meeting or by mail/email ballot (with prior notification to the Executive Director) 


    Membership Year

    Membership to IASL is based on a calendar year - January to December. 

    • If you join prior to August 1, you are entitled to all back issues of member publications and access to all member services.

    • If you join after August 1, your membership will extend through the next calendar year. 

    • Multiple year memberships are available. If interested, please contact the Secretariat for additional information. Please note that there are no discounts for multi-year memberships.


    Dues

    Membership dues are based on your country of residence. IASL Zones reflect published gross national product indexes for each country, with all international schools designated as Zone A. Note that amounts are in US dollars.


    Partner Member Association: 

    • The Partner member fee includes a zone-specific base fee plus $1 for every member per annum; every individual member of the partner association must be counted in the dues collection.  

    • Partner member associations must sign a three-year membership contract, payable in annual installments, due on or before 30 January each year.

    International Schools are included in Zone A (except local employees) .
