Theme

The theme for ISLM 2024, "School Libraries: Community Connectors," draws inspiration from the overarching theme of the 2024 IASL Conference. In acknowledgment of the challenges confronting many nations, this theme underscores the integral role of school libraries in fostering connections, collaboration, and engagement within their communities. It emphasizes how school libraries serve as catalysts for building stronger, more cohesive communities, thereby contributing to the overall well-being and success of society.

Objectives
  • Promote Literacy: ISLM aims to raise awareness about the importance of literacy and reading in education. By highlighting the role of school libraries, we advocate for the development of essential literacy skills among students of all ages.

  • Foster Lifelong Learning: Through engaging activities and initiatives, ISLM encourages a culture of lifelong learning. We believe that school libraries play a crucial role in providing access to diverse resources and fostering a love for learning beyond the classroom.

  • Advocate for School Libraries: ISLM serves as a platform to advocate for the value of school libraries and the professionals who manage them. By showcasing the impact of school libraries on education and student success, we advocate for increased support and resources for school library programs.

  • Build Community Connections: ISLM promotes collaboration and engagement within school communities and beyond. By organizing events and activities that involve students, educators, librarians, and community members, we aim to strengthen connections and foster a sense of belonging.

  • Celebrate Diversity: ISLM celebrates diversity in literature, culture, and perspectives. Through curated reading lists, multicultural events, and inclusive initiatives, we promote diversity and inclusion within school libraries and educational settings.

  • Empower Student Voice: ISLM provides opportunities for students to share their experiences, ideas, and creativity. By empowering student voice and participation, we aim to cultivate leadership skills, confidence, and a sense of ownership in school library programs.

  • Support Professional Development: ISLM supports professional development opportunities for librarians, educators, and other stakeholders involved in school library management. By providing access to resources, training, and networking opportunities, we strive to enhance the capacity and effectiveness of school library professionals.

  • Raise Awareness: Finally, ISLM seeks to raise awareness about the significance of school libraries in achieving broader educational goals and initiatives. By engaging stakeholders at local, national, and international levels, we advocate for the recognition and support of school libraries as essential components of the education system.
