(Open to International Schools)
If you are in an International School, here’s a reading activity you might consider getting your students involved in for ISLM. It is a debut young adult book award, short listed by school librarians and judged by young readers.
The Great Reads Awards (GRA), a reading activity of the School Library Association in the Republic of Ireland, is now open to International Schools outside of Ireland. The GRAs, for debut writers for young adults, were set up in 2016 by a group of school librarians in Ireland working in a variety of Irish second level schools who are passionate about introducing students to great books. The aim of the award is to highlight new authors and diversify the reading of young adults. The winning authors are determined by the second level students who vote for their favourite book on the shortlist. The activity is now open to students in International Schools outside of Ireland.
The short list for this year’s awards have just been announced. It includes two Irish writers, four British-based writers, a Zimbabwean-born writer currently based in Switzerland, and a Swedish-born writer now living in the USA. The titles are all available in ebook format.
