Procedures: Membership and Fees
Benefits of Membership
With the payment of fees, each member is entitled to, where applicable:
- voting privileges on all matters of substance at the Annual General Meeting or by mail ballot;
- opportunity to stand for office, serve on committees, participate in SIGs or other association activities;
- receive three issues of the newsletters and semiannual journal;
- have access to IASL-LINK;
- attend conferences at a reduced rate;
- other member benefits as may from time to time become available.
Membership of the association is based on a calendar year commencing January through to December. Members who join part way through a year will have access to the back issues of membership publications and services.
Membership Categories and Fees
Personal membership is open to all persons who are interested in the development of school libraries and school library media programs.
Institutional membership is open to any institution interested in or involved in the development of school librarianship. One representative, designated by the institution, upon identification with the Executive Secretary will have full voting privileges for the institution at all general meetings. All publications and other services from IASL will be communicated to only one person or address in the institution.
Association membership is open to any library or library-related associations. One representative, designated by the association, upon identification with the Executive Secretary will have full voting privileges for the association at all general meetings. All publications and other services from IASL will be communicated to only one person or address for the association.
Honorary membership may be accorded to an individual by the Executive Committee at an Annual General Meeting. The fees for an honorary membership shall be the same as for any regular personal member, and shall then entitle the holder to the same rights and privileges as any full personal membership.
Life membership is a personal membership for one's lifetime.
Fee Structure
The fee structure is established according to geographical distribution and applies to all membership categories.
Zone A -- International Schools (except local employees), Australia, Canada, Hong Kong, Israel, Japan, New Zealand, Sauda Arabia, Taiwan, United Kingdom, USA, Western Europe.
Zone B -- Asia (excluding Japan), Eastern Europe, Latin America, Mexico, South Africa, Middle East.
Zone C -- Bangladesh, China, Egypt, Gambia, Honduras, India, Indonesia, Nepak, Nigeria, Philippines, Sri Lanka, Vietnam, Zimbabwe.

The Executive Committee has approved a Life Membership Category, subject to approval of the membership in 1998. The fee is US$1,000. Revenue from this category will be used to develop an endowment for Association Management.
Membership Directory
The membership directory is provided to all IASL officers, directors, coordinators, chairs and managers each year. The directory, under the Privacy Act, is only to be used to carry out the designated role of the person who receives such confidential information.
